Michael Card: Songwriter and Prophetby Ehud M. Garcia Michael Card is probably the Christian songwriter who has most impacted me over the years, since I moved to North America. He has a beautiful melody in his music, but it is his lyrics that appeal to me the most. For me, his best release is so far The Final Word. I cannot tell you how many times I have pondered on his words and the beauty of the songs in this album. Three of its tracks are most impressive: The Final Word, Joseph's Song, and Immanuel. This is an album that I listen to during the Christmas Season because it makes me always aware of the God Jesus Christ, made Flesh to live among us sinners in order to redeem us. God with us! Immanuel! But also, the track about Joseph is tremendously well done and makes me travel into my own imagination to capture the humble heart of the one who raised our Lord Jesus as his own child. It is an amazing message and makes always wonder how great is God's Grace in the lives of Joseph, the Carpenter of Nazareth, and his bride Mary. Two other albums that I really appreciate are: The Beginning and The Way of Wisdom. In those albums he depicts some key elements of the Old Testament teaching. It is amazing how he draws vivid pictures of faith from the Torah and from the Wisdom Books. I really love those tunes! Joy In the Journey is another wonderful collection of good music. In it, he sings another of my favored, El Shaddai, which is also sung by Amy Grant. He repeats a few songs from other releases, but it is a good cd for those who want to know his extensive work in a capsule! Finally, I like the album that he and John Michael Talbot put together, Brother to Brother. They are superb in this album! They seem to complement each other with their melody, spirituality, and gusto! The best track for me is Immanuel/Behold Now the Kingdom. It is a wonderful music to a Christian ear indeed! Michael Card is more than just a songwriter for me. I consider him a prophet with a wonderful way of communicating God's love through music. He, in some ways, is a colleague in the journey of faith. He is a good theologian in what he writes and sings. eDiaspora Home Page | Brazilian Music | Getting Personal © copyright 2003-2006 Ehud M. Garcia, Ph.D. |
